What to Expect
Our Simple, End-to-End Solar Installation Process
We’ve designed our process to be straightforward, transparent, and fully managed from start to finish. From your first enquiry through to installation and monitoring, we handle everything — so you can move to solar with confidence.
Initial Consultation & Energy Assessment
We begin by understanding your home, your current electricity usage, and your long-term goals. Whether you’re looking to reduce energy bills, improve energy independence, or prepare for battery storage or EV charging, we shape the solution around your priorities. By reviewing your roof space, orientation, household consumption, and future plans, we can determine the most suitable system for your property.
01.
System Design & Performance Forecast
Using satellite imagery and advanced modelling tools, we design a solar system specifically for your home. This allows us to forecast expected energy generation, estimated savings, and optimal system size. At this stage, we also consider battery compatibility and future expansion, ensuring your system is designed with flexibility and long-term performance in mind.

03.
Site Survey & Technical Assessment
When you’re ready to proceed, a qualified engineer carries out a detailed site survey to confirm technical requirements. This includes assessing roof condition, reviewing your electrical setup, and planning installation logistics. This stage ensures everything is prepared correctly and helps guarantee a smooth installation with minimal disruption.
04.
Installation & System Setup
Your solar panels are installed by accredited engineers, with most residential installations completed within one to two days. The team mounts the panels, installs the inverter, connects the system to your electrical supply, and carries out all necessary safety checks. Our aim is always to deliver a clean, professional installation with minimal impact on your home.
05.
System Activation & Monitoring Setup
Once installation is complete, your system is commissioned and activated. Monitoring software is configured so you can track generation and performance in real time. This allows you to clearly see how much electricity your system is producing and how your energy usage is changing.
06.
Start Generating Your Own Energy
Once your system is live, your home begins generating electricity immediately. You’ll start reducing reliance on grid energy and benefiting from lower electricity costs from day one. Solar is designed to deliver long-term value, and our process ensures your system performs reliably for years to come.

Solar Export Tariffs
Best Electricity Tariffs for Solar Homeowners

Solar Panels Only
Your priority is a high fixed-rate SEG tariff. Good Energy Solar Savings Exclusive (25p/kWh) or EDF Export Exclusive (24p/kWh) deliver the best returns. For import, a standard variable or fixed tariff is fine — without a battery, you cannot take advantage of off-peak rates. Estimated annual benefit: £440–£800.

Solar Panels & Heat Pump
Octopus Cosy is designed for heat pump owners, offering three daily off-peak windows totalling 8 hours at approximately 14.68p/kWh — roughly half the standard rate. Solar panels reduce daytime import, and the Cosy off-peak windows cover your heat pump's heaviest demand periods. Paired with a high-rate SEG tariff, your estimated annual savings could range from £600–£1,000.

Smart Export Guarantee: Turn Your Roof Into a Revenue Stream
Every solar panel system we install qualifies for the Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) — the government-mandated scheme that requires licensed electricity suppliers to pay you for surplus electricity you export to the grid. How much you earn depends on your export tariff. The best rates in April 2026:
Solar + Battery Homeowners
- Intelligent Octopus Flux pays up to 32.17p/kWh during peak hours (4–7pm)
- Octopus Flux pays 29.32p/kWh at peak
These tariffs let your battery charge from cheap overnight imports and then export stored electricity at peak prices — combining solar generation income with grid arbitrage profits. Average combined annual savings and income: £1,100+ on a typical system.
Solar-Only Homeowners
- Good Energy Solar Savings Exclusive: 25p/kWh flat rate
- EDF Export Exclusive: 24p/kWh fixed for 12 months
- OVO SEG Install Exclusive: 20p/kWh
- Ecotricity Smart Export: 16p/kWh
- British Gas Export and Earn Plus: 15.1p/kWh
- Octopus Outgoing: 12p/kWh
A typical 4kW system in southern England exports approximately 1,500–2,200 kWh per year. At 15p/kWh, that is £225 to £330 in annual export income alone — before accounting for the electricity you use directly and no longer have to buy from the grid.
